The term hero of the day refers to individuals who do a selfless act for others during times of crisis. This person can be someone in a position of authority (e.g. a business owner, manager or executive) or can be an individual in the community who makes a difference to his or her neighbors or colleagues. The hero of the day is often recognized for his or her service by a medal, special privileges or rights for life and the admiration and respect of the community.
The New York Post won the 2021 Rev. Mychal Judge Heart of New York Award for its “Hero of the Day” series, which highlighted essential workers and volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic’s darkest days. The series ran for 68 days both online and in print and profiled a wide range of individuals, from funeral workers to a pair of office workers who started donating their unused commuting fares.
Metallica just dropped a remastered version of the song “Hero of the Day.” It’s the second track to be previewed from the band’s upcoming reissue of Load, which arrives on June 13 and will feature 301 tracks, including demos, alternate takes, early mixes, B-sides and rehearsal audio.
