The war in Ukraine has become one of the conflicts that has attracted global attention, since the Russian invasion began in February 2022. This conflict not only has an impact on Ukrainian society but also affects political, economic and social stability throughout the world. The global impact caused is very broad and covers various sectors. First, the economic impact can be seen with the spike in energy and food prices. Ukraine is known as one of the world’s largest wheat producers, and when exports were hampered, global food prices saw a significant increase. Countries dependent on wheat imports from Ukraine, such as Egypt and countries in the Middle East, face the risk of food shortages, which could lead to a humanitarian crisis. Second, this crisis triggered global inflation. Countries with a high dependence on energy from Russia, such as Germany and Italy, felt the direct impact in energy costs. High inflation causes a heavy burden on consumers and businesses, affecting people’s purchasing power and overall economic growth. Third, the international security sector is affected. NATO made adjustments to its defense strategy, increasing its military presence in Eastern Europe. NATO member states, such as Poland and Estonia, are increasing their defense spending, creating tensions with Russia. This has also caused countries in Asia, such as Japan and South Korea, to reconsider their defense policies. The world’s reaction to this conflict has been very mixed. Western countries, including the United States and the European Union, provide significant military and humanitarian support to Ukraine. Economic sanctions against Russia were introduced broadly, with the aim of weakening the Kremlin’s military capabilities. However, reactions from non-Western countries were more mixed; some chose to remain neutral, while others improved relations with Russia, creating a new dividing line in international relations. In a social context, Ukrainian refugees are a serious problem for European countries. Germany, Poland and other countries took in millions of refugees, sparking debate about integration, social support and long-term demographic impacts. There is also talk about the rise of nationalism and xeno-phobia in several European countries. Additionally, this war changed the way the world viewed diplomacy. Ongoing peace and negotiation efforts face challenges from growing distrust. Previous dialogue between Russia and the West has stalled, making the potential for a peaceful resolution look increasingly dim. The use of media and propaganda is also a major driver in shaping public opinion, both inside and outside Ukraine. The war in Ukraine shows the enormous impact that goes beyond national borders. From economic instability to changes in the global security paradigm, this conflict creates new challenges and deepens divisions in the international arena. Ultimately, the outcome of this conflict will determine the future direction of foreign policy and international relations.
